As the weather warms up in Smoke Rise, now’s a great time to prep your yard for a colorful, low‑maintenance summer.

🌼 Add Summer‑Long Color

Choose heat‑tolerant plants that thrive in our area, such as:

  1. Coneflower
  2. Black‑eyed Susan
  3. Hydrangeas
  4. Butterfly Bush
  5. Lantana

These bloom through the hottest months and keep your yard looking alive.

🐝 Attract Friendly Insects

Pollinators and beneficial insects help keep your garden healthy. Good choices include:

  1. Milkweed
  2. Lavender
  3. Salvia
  4. Yarrow

Avoid heavy pesticides early in the season so these helpers can do their job.

🌿 Get Ahead of Weeds

A little prep now saves a lot of work later:

  1. Apply a pre‑emergent to block new weed seeds
  2. Add 2–3 inches of mulch to keep soil cool and shaded
  3. Edge your beds to keep grass from creeping in
  4. Pull early weeds before they spread

Healthy soil and thick plantings naturally reduce weed growth.

🌳 Quick Spring Cleanup

  1. Remove leftover leaves and debris
  2. Trim dead branches
  3. Check irrigation or soaker hoses
  4. Divide overgrown perennials

A simple cleanup helps everything grow stronger through summer.
